Mark McNamara

professional associate professor

Dr. Mark McNamara has specialized in Biology and Chemistry First-Year Science Learning Communities at TAMUCC since 2005. His biggest thrill is when a former student achieves their dream of becoming a research scientist, physician, marine biologist, dentist, nurse, or wherever life takes them. He often describes himself as "the worst university freshman ever," which explains his passion for helping first-year science students succeed in the challenging first year of college. A three-time Islander Alumnus, he holds a B.S. and M.S. in biology and a doctorate in education, specializing in science education from TAMUCC. His interests include: science education, first-year college success, marine organisms, scuba diving, and marine conservation. In his spare time, he introduces people to the underwater world as a scuba instructor, organizes an annual dive against debris survey, and serves on the National Islander Alumni Board. He is married and the father of three children.
